Well, I wasn’t going to do a blog for this trip, but
after several folks said they wish I would, I decided to go ahead with it. LaVerne had a doctor appointment Monday
morning (4/1), so we didn’t get to leave until after Noon. Wasn’t that big of a
deal since we were only going down to Lake Alatoona near Acworth for the 1st
night. Randy lives close by and he came
by for a visit.
Tuesday, we went to Wetumpka, AL and got a campsite at
Ft. Toulouse State Park. Our grandson
Jake is a junior at Wetumpka High School and is on the tennis team (which Scott
coaches). They had a match Tuesday afternoon with another school and I got to
see Jake play (he clobbered his opponent).
We had a nice visit and meal with Scott, Pam, Jake, and Will.
We pulled out early Wednesday morning, hit I-65 South to
Mobile, AL, and then to Dauphin Island. The campground is pretty full and the
initial campsite wasn’t too good. Had to
get them to change us to a better one.
We were planning on doing some birding on Thursday and Friday, but
Thursday was a rainout - rained ALL DAY and most of the night. Lots of T-boomers around. Today (Friday) the rain mostly stopped, but
it was a cloudy day. We went out for
breakfast and made a Walmart run.
We only planned to stay here 3 nights, so early tomorrow
morning (Saturday 4/6) we’ll be headed out and going west on I-10 across
Louisiana (ugghh) to High Island, TX. It’s one of our favorite places and we’ll
be there several days.
